The Peer Recovery Center of Excellence's services are funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The current grant ends August 30, 2024. This means that we will need to wrap all current projects up by then. More involved requests submitted now may be transferred to another TA center (such as the Opioid Response Network or the SAMHSA Program to Advance Recovery Knowledge [SPARK]) if we anticipate the work will continue beyond August 30th.
SAMHSA does intend to fund the new Center for Addiction Recovery Support (CARS), which will build on and continue the work of the Peer Recovery Center of Excellence. CARS is set to begin around October 1, 2024. In the meantime, you are welcome to visit the Practitioner Training page on SAMHSA’s website to find a TA center that seems like the best fit for you. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to info@peerrecoverynow.org.
There are many centers and organizations that provide TA on varying subjects. The purpose of our TA is to support the integration of peer services into diverse settings; build the capacity of Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs); develop the peer recovery workforce; increase access to evidence-based practices and practice-based evidence; and incorporate the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion into the work of peers. We expect most requests to fall into those five areas, but we can accept requests outside of that if they pertain to peer support. Anyone—individuals, organizations, communities, states—can request TA from the PR CoE.
The PR CoE has a wide range of experts available at our Center, through our consultants, partner organizations, and our peer-led steering committee. Utilizing the knowledge and skills of these experts, we will offer up to date training and widely available resources. Once we have the information from the TA request form, someone from our team will be in contact with you within 2 business days.
Since our TA Request portal went live in early 2021, we have received over 650 individual TA requests. Our integration team provided resources for an overdose response project working towards implementing peers into the emergency departments of 3 area hospitals. Our RCO team assisted a growing RCO in establishing orientation and training processes for staff. Our workforce development team helped an applicant access and navigate their state’s peer certification requirements and training. And our evidence-based practice team have provided resources for PRSS evaluation.
Reach out to Zoë Murphy, Sr. Program Manager for the PR CoE, at murphyz@umkc.edu with any questions.

In order to respond to these requests, we have a pool of experts we can call on to assist in training. Do you or your organization have subject matter expertise in the any of our focus areas? We'd be happy to have you or your organization as a consultant.
